IBM Cell on sale

A gaming chip, or a supercomputer on a stick? IBM and its partners have beaten up its potential but done little so far to generate product. Well now IBM has launched the Cell with some demos of its abilities in medical imaging. It looks like a juicy niche rather than a wider market, but it could also be the start of something broader and deeper. It needs strong marketing and a commitment to port applications across to its unique architecture. There are some hurdles here to wide acceptance, but once the hard work is done the product appears strong. And yes I do have a day job with IBM, so my views are my own and not necessarily representative of the company's view.
